formed in 1852. Santa Ana County, New Mexico Territory, one of the nine original counties, was annexed in 1876
to Bernalillo County, New Mexico. |

February 1919. Lordsburg is the county seat. Hidalgo was named for Guadalupe
Hidalgo of Mexico. Hidalgo is an open landscape with breath-taking beauty. The
railroad once provided income but now farming and ranching are the main
businesses.
