Arkansas is one of the West South Central states of the US
Arkansas is known as an agricultural state with diverse mineral resources, Arkansas by the 1990s had an economy that was dominated by the manufacturing and service sectors. The name of the state is taken from the Arkansas River, which was named for the Arkansa, or Quapaw, Indians; the s was added as a plural, and the French pronunciation was retained.

Arkansas weather is pleasant and usually void of extreme heat or cold. Average summer highs approach 80 degrees, with winters lows in the 40s.
Rainfall varies slightly north to south, but the statewide average is near 50 inches per year. Amounts exceeding 60 inches yearly are common in the Ouachita Mountains.
Snow does fall in the northwest and west, and occasionally in the southern areas. |
