Storm WindowsPut your house in a whole new light with replacement windows

Home Improvement Guide

Make your home distinctive with Storm Windows

Styles: Storm Windows

Are your heating bills getting out of hand? Have you lowered the thermostat as far as your standards of comfort can handle? If so, you may have an insulation problem.

If too much heat is escaping your house, it is probably going out through your doors or windows. Unfortunately, replacing either of these two parts of your home can be very expensive. One solution for those who can't afford window upgrades is to install storm windows.

Storm windows are essentially inexpensive windows that can be installed on the outside of your home during the winter months to provide another layer of insulation. They work extremely well in eliminating nasty drafts caused by older windows that no longer fit perfectly in their frames.

There are a number of storm window styles available today. Many are made with glass panes that have been coated with a finish that deflects sunlight and harmful UV rays. Others are designed so that they can be removed once the winter months have passed.

Another benefit storm windows provide is sound reduction. Some storm window styles are built to soundproof rooms from outside noises. This is really needed in some older homes in urban areas.

Because storm windows are only designed to add additional insulation to permanent window fixtures, they can be very inexpensive. They generally cost around $200-$700, depending on the various storm window styles. This price is much cheaper that the cost of installing well insulated replacement windows.
