What Are Slider Doors?

Considering the name, the actuality of slider or sliding doors is not surprising. Slider doors are doors that are usually made primarily of large glass panes. These large glass panes are framed in metal, wood, or fiberglass and slide back and forth in a metal or fiberglass groove or track.

What are Slider Doors Used For?

As exterior doors, slider doors are most commonly found as an auxiliary rear exit to a back yard, deck, patio, or garden area. While these slider doors typically encase the large panels of glass, interior slider doors are more likely to hold mirror or wood panels. As interior doors, slider doors make great closet doors. They are also very popular in smaller spaces where the swinging space of a traditional door is not practical

Are Slider Doors High Maintenance?

In the past, slider doors have indeed been high maintenance and at times repairs have been murderously difficult. Due to inferior sliding mechanisms and less efficient sealing methods, many older exterior slider doors would ice up severely in the winter and create water damage when the ice melted. Interior slider doors were likewise plagued by habitually falling off of over head tracks. Most of today's slider doors use fiberglass or plastic tracks which make for excellent sealing and sliding.
