Higher Education Degrees in Montana
Montana had nearly 482 thousand people going to work in June 2006, with an unemployment rate of 3.5 percent. Most of those jobs were in trade, transportation, and utilities, though jobs in construction and mining saw the most growth.
In 2004, Montana had 23 campus colleges and universities that together awarded nearly nine thousand degrees in both public and private schools. Many of these colleges and universities featured distance learning, including videoconferencing and online instruction. A five-year federal grant called Montana GEAR UP was recently developed to help young people from low-income backgrounds to prepare for higher education. Other education programs in the state include the American Indian / Minority Achievement Program, and the Workforce Development program.
To be admitted to one of Montana's four-year campus colleges and universities, students must first earn a minimum score of 2.5 of 6 on a Writing Assessment test. Since many online colleges are based in other states, this state-wide requirement may not apply to enrollment online.
Both online and campus colleges and universities offer degrees and training in trade and transportation, including pilot licenses and mechanical jobs. Many career schools can also be found online. Higher education in Montana can mean more possibilities for the more popular careers in the state. For Montana residents considering a new career or degree, on-campus and online colleges in the state offer many opportunities for higher education.
