While we know Alaska is our largest state, and the final frontier, not many realize that Alaska has the fourth smallest population in the United States. However, the lack of an abundant population does not mean Alaska does not offer first rate university and college degrees.
While Alaska’s population may not support the amount of universities and colleges that other states offer, Alaska can boast that she has some world class departments in geophysics, geology, and the natural sciences. If you are interested in such disciplines such as wildlife biology or atmospheric sciences (can you say aurora borealis), you should check your college directory for the colleges and universities in Alaska. Alaskan universities and colleges offer degrees from associate degree to
doctorate. If traditional learning is not what you are looking for, Alaska has tribal and religious colleges as well.
When you are not on university campus studying, there are many activities to enjoy. Dog mushing is the state sport; however, if mushing is not for you, Alaska has numerous historical landmarks and museums to enjoy. Shopping is not as frightening as you may have been lead to believe either. While goods are generally higher, Alaska does not charge a sales tax. Ideally, prospective students should visit each individual campus in person to measure whether or not Alaska universities and colleges are a good fit.
