Career Colleges and Training in Sugar Land, Texas

Sugar Land, Texas Colleges and Universities

Sugar Land, Texas has 78,000 residents and is 25 miles west of Houston. Sugar Land enjoys the influence and offerings of its neighboring city while still thriving independently in both education and business.

Sugar Land colleges

The University of Houston System has a campus in Sugar Land. The University of Houston Sugar Land offers undergraduate and graduate programs in more than 20 areas of study by partnering with the University of Houston, University of Houston-Clear Lake, and University of Houston-Victoria.

Wharton County Junior College also has a campus in Sugar Land, offering over 25 courses. This transfer-driven community college has a number of partnerships with local universities and is highly affordable, costing just over $2,000 a year for in-state students and $4,000 for out-of-state students.

Best of all, Sugar Land residents are within close driving distance to many great universities, such as Houston Baptist University and the University of Houston. Perhaps it explains why nearly 55 percent of Sugar Land residents have college degrees.

Sugar Land economy

Sugar Land has a large science, health care, and education market. Nearly 8,000 people work in education and health care, and another 6,000 work in the science field. Some of the major employers in town include Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, Nalco Energy Services LP, and Noble Drilling Services, Inc. The median household income is $101,611.

The workforce is only growing, too. Between 2000 and 2010, the town experienced a 24.5 percent population growth. With great educational and business offerings, the growth makes perfect sense.
