Located close to the Dallas-Forth Worth metro area but nestled along the shore of Joe Pool Lake, the Texas town of Cedar Hill boasts a high quality of life that blends big city amenities with the pace and space of a smaller community. Graduates of Cedar Hill colleges may not want to give up this best-of-both-worlds lifestyle, and thanks to a thriving local economy, they may not have to.

College Learning in Cedar Hill

Cedar Hill is home to one of the campuses of Northwood University, an institution specializing in business programs. It offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in subjects such as accounting, economics, entrepreneurship and management. The Cedar Hill campus was established in 1966 and occupies 350 acres near Joe Pool Lake. Tuition and fees for the 2012-13 school year are $20,996 for commuters and $30,102 for resident students. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's projected 2012-13 average tuition and fees for independent colleges is $23,045. Cedar Hill is also close to the many schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with the University of North Texas-Dallas one of the closest. The total 2012-13 cost of attendance at UNT-Dallas is estimated at $19,264 for an in-state student living off-campus and $29,794 for an out-of-state student living off-campus. The THECB puts average tuition and fees at $7,360 (in-state) and $17,659 (out-of-state) for state schools in 2012-13.

Thinking about a career in Cedar Hill

Cedar Hill has emerged as a retail hotspot in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, having added more than 3 million square feet of retail space since 1999. A JCPenney retail store and distribution center are among the town's largest employers, and retail centers include the 70-acre Cedar Hill Village and the 800,000-square-foot Uptown Village complex. Located close to major railways, interstate highways and three airports, Cedar Hill is a prime location for many types of business, and its business park includes such companies as Highway Intelligent Traffic Systems, Martin Apparatus, Dualite, Metals Supply and Metals USA. Those living in Cedar Hill can also easily commute to jobs in Dallas-Fort Worth, greatly expanding employment opportunities. Major Dallas employers include American Airlines, Countrywide Home Loans, Citigroup and Lockheed Martin. The 2011 mean annual wage in the Dallas area was $47,620, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
