It also ranked Brentwood the 102nd smartest city in the country. To those familiar with Brentwood, that may not come as a surprise: More than 98 percent of the city's residents have high school diplomas and more than 68 percent have a bachelor's degree or higher - more than triple the statewide number. Brentwood CollegesBrentwood offers suburban city living with access to all of the great schools in nearby Nashville, just 10 miles away. Perhaps most well-known is Vanderbilt University. With about 13,000 students, Vanderbilt offers dozens of degrees at a cost of about $40,000 a year for undergraduates. It was ranked 17th among national universities by U.S. News & World Report. Belmont University is also in Nashville. This Christian university has more than 6,000 students, and the average student to teacher ratio is 13 to 1. Tuition is about $12,000 a semester for undergrads. Brentwood EconomyThis fast-growing city saw its population grow 58 percent from 2000 to 2010, when there were 37,060 residents. Brentwood's median home value is $481,300, and nearly 95 percent of residents own their homes. The median household income in Brentwood is a whopping $126,787 - that's nearly three times Tennessee's median household income. For college grads, there are plenty of businesses to choose from: The City of Brentwood had more than 6,500 businesses as of 2007, and 20 percent of those companies were women-owned.
