Lancaster Colleges and UniversitiesThe Lancaster campus of Ohio University provides academic opportunities to about 2,500 students. Whether students are interested in two-year or four-year degrees, they'll find both as options at the 113-acre campus located in the northern part of the city; there, they'll be able to pursue fields such as communication studies and criminal justice and work with faculty members who hold at least a master's degree in their fields. Daymar College also has a campus location in Lancaster. At this campus, students can choose from five programs -- diplomas and associate degrees -- in business management, criminal justice, medical assisting (two programs: administrative and clinical) and medical massage therapy. This Lancaster location is just one of the school's 16 campus sites, all of which provide career training. Due to its close proximity to Columbus, Lancaster residents can find many other colleges to choose from. These include Capital University, Columbus Community College, Ohio Dominican University, Ohio University and many more located in Columbus. The average in-state tuition and fees in Ohio for the 2011-12 academic year were $3,608 for public two-year colleges, $8,904 for public four-year colleges and $28,376 for private nonprofit four-year schools. The Lancaster Economy at a GlanceThe main industries in Lancaster, accounting for up to a quarter of the jobs in town, include education, health care and social assistance. The top five employers are Fairfield Medical Center (2,039 employees), Anchor Hocking (1,148 employees), Lancaster City Schools (1,014 employees), Pickerington Schools (999 employees) and Fairfield County (922 employees). The city is also pursuing a vigorous economic redevelopment program that could benefit graduates of Lancaster colleges and beyond who are looking looking for jobs or for new business opportunities.
