Syracuse, New York Colleges

Syracuse Colleges, Universities, and Schools

Because Syracuse, New York served as a major crossroads during the early days of the American industrial revolution, it benefited from a disproportionate influx of new ideas, new cultures, and new innovations. It served as a major hub both for the railway system and the Erie Canal. Thus, it should be no surprise that Syracuse, New York colleges serve as a fertile breeding ground for the initially unpopular abolitionist movement of the mid-1800s. More than 150 years later, this same progressive spirit can still be felt throughout Syracuse education programs in New York. But add to this list the growing importance of technology, science, the fine arts, and other disciplines for which Syracuse colleges are so well respected.

Syracuse Education Programs in New York

One fact of life at Syracuse colleges is the cold weather. To be sure, the other three seasons are extremely beautiful, but all prospective applicants should be aware that Syracuse colleges tend to favor winter related sports due to the average 115 inches of snow that fall on the city every year. In fact, research indicates that Syracuse is the "snowiest" major city in the world, beating out top contenders like Moscow and Buffalo, New York. But interestingly enough, students from Syracuse colleges also seem to thrive in non-winter related sports, such as golf. In fact, Syracuse had the first public golf course in the United States (1901), and the city boasts over 170 parks, recreation areas, and fields that encompass more than 1000 square acres.
