One being the community colleges in New Hampshire, sometimes called New Hampshire junior colleges, or New Hampshire technical institutes, and so-called "four-year" colleges which award bachelor's and master's degrees. The "two-year" community educational institutions provide post-secondary education and lower-level tertiary education, granting certificates, diplomas, and associate's degrees in New Hampshire. The name, "community colleges" derives from the fact that "two-year" colleges primarily accept, and attract, students from the New Hampshire local community The New Hampshire Community Technical Colleges are an outgrowth of two trade schools established after WWII to provide occupational training to returning veterans as well as local youths and adults interested in the trades or technical vocations.
