Delaware Public Two-Year Colleges
Junior Colleges, Technical Institutes, and Schools
The State of Delaware administers its own system of higher education which operate at least two tiers of public colleges. One being the community colleges in Delaware, sometimes called Delaware junior colleges, or Delaware technical institutes, and so-called "four-year" Delaware colleges
which award bachelor's and master's degrees. The "two-year" community educational institutions provide post-secondary education and lower-level tertiary education, granting certificates, diplomas, and associate's degrees in Delaware. The name, "community colleges" derives from the fact that "two-year"
colleges primarily accept, and attract, students from the Delaware local community
Delaware Technical and Community College is a single statewide community college with multiple campuses in four locations around the state. The Delaware Technical and Community was created in 1966 by the Delaware General Assembly to provide academic, technical and continuing education opportunities
to residents of Delaware. The college's curriculum generally has a strong vocational/occupational orientation.
