Interior design is broadly defined as the finishing touches on an architectural interior. Lighting, furniture, decoration, and aesthetic design all fall under its wing. Classes will include basic concepts of interior design but also important elective subjects like drawing, sculpture and art theory so that you have the background to make exciting choices for a company or client.
And so much of interior design inovles problem-solving. A rule of thumb is that no matter how identical two spaces are, no two rooms are completely alike. Clients are different, electrical lay out can be different; even the smallest difference can change a project radically. A degree prepares you for all these vagaries of the business.
But most importantly, getting into interior design allows you to be creative and artistic without having to forgo a potentially lucrative career. It's the perfect union of art and commerce. Go for it!
