Digital Arts Training in Missouri

If you have an interest in computer technology, and an artistic eye, you might consider a career in media/multimedia, or as it's also known, digital communications. As a multimedia professional, you will design electronic presentations intended for an audience. The material might be delivered via CD-ROM, Websites, or physical installations, and might include images, text, and sounds. Often, in addition to choosing and arranging these media elements, you will also design interactivity into your presentation, allowing, for instance, users to click links that will take them through a Web site, or electronic pages that will take them through a story on a CD-ROM.

To learn multimedia skills, you can take courses in technologies that interest you. For example, if you are interested in developing Web pages, you could take courses in commonly used programs such as Flash or Photoshop. Many colleges also offer degree programs in multimedia or digital communications. These programs typically teach you the theory behind visual and aural communications, and also give you hands-on training in video, sound, and graphics technologies. You also may take courses in writing and business skills. And typically, you will get the chance to show off your skills by completing a thesis project.

Once you've completed your education, you will have many possible career options to choose from. For example, you could be a Web designer, a CD-ROM designer, an art director, or a computer game designer. Or you could focus on the business aspects of multimedia, by becoming, for instance, a Web advertising specialist. Or finally, you could work as a programmer or Webmaster, focusing on the technological aspects of multimedia.
