The Air-Conditioning Excellence program, offered through North American Technician Excellence, is the standard for certification of experienced technicians. Like most technicians, you will probably specialize in either installation, or maintenance and repair of systems, although your training will generally cover both.

Job prospects are good, especially if you have a college education, according to the Bureau of Labor.
