Nursing Training in Connecticut
Nursing is the science of management of health care and the art of care provision. As a health care provider, nurses advise on preventive care, provide bedside nursing care, carry out medical regimens and help those who are ill on their road to recovery. They also plan, organize, and educate patients and their families as well.
A nurse delivers care from prevention to diagnosis, administer simple medical procedures and provide patient rehabilitation care. Nurses collect the physical, psychological and background data about a patient and provide the diagnosis to the primary caregiver. They draw up care plans and execute on these plans to ensure treatment goals are met. When providing direct patient care, nurses assist physicians during surgeries, treatments, and examinations. Some nurses specialize in a specific area of care such as emergency, pediatric, psychiatric, school, public health, midwives, and others.
Nursing education includes the study in nursing theory and techniques, the science and treatment of disease, and concentration in specialty areas. Nursing degrees range from a 2-year associate's degree to a 4-year bachelor's degree. Upon completion, you will be awarded a bachelor's of science degree in nursing (BSN), an associate's degree in Nursing (ADN), or a diploma. All three provides you with the necessary qualifications to be licensed and to qualify for entry-level positions as staff nurses. Graduate education is available for those who choose to specialize. All nursing programs include courses in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, psychology and nursing. It also includes hands-on clinical practice in hospitals or other settings.
