Colorado Facilities Degree ProgramsFacilities Management Degrees in ColoradoThere is something to be said about studying in the mountains. It is little wonder that so many people agree that Denver and Boulder are two of the most livable and affable cities in the United States. Colorado manages to draw extremely friendly, open-minded, and tolerant people from all over the country. And the student body certainly reflects this. Whether through weekend excursions or late night discussions, you will quickly discover that your learning extends well beyond the boundaries of the classroom. If the executives of any company are the brains of an operation, clearly facilities planning and management is the heart and soul. The mission of facilities planning and management is to provide effective planning, design and management oversight for all custodial and construction projects of an organization or business. This group of professional men and women essentially oversee the long-range master plan for any corporate environment; and to plan for the future growth of the corporation or business it serves. The facilities planning and management professional functions as the communications and data collection officer for complaints, repair requests, special events, and emergencies related to organization that it serves. All requests/complaints are dealt with through the facility's maintenance management computer/work control system and dispatched to the appropriate shop within facilities planning and management. This group is also responsible for the custodial services for the buildings and spaces of the organization and other areas under its control. Custodial services might include everything from basic housekeeping to changing fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs. Skills in facilities planning and management are gained through coursework in technical colleges or universities in such disciplines as general administration & management, maintenance & operations, energy & utilities, facilities planning, design & construction. Within each area, both required and elective courses are offered. Many training programs require a student to select one core area which to focus their classes. Upon completing these programs, students will receive a degree in their core area of study or if they are already in the field, continuing education units (CEUs).
