The gateway to the Canadian Rockies in western Canada is a fantastic place for outdoor enthusiasts. Enjoy the pristine outdoors and hit the slopes, the links, the rivers or explore the great outdoors on horseback. Engineering is the application of science to practical needs. Unlike purely theoretical approaches to science, in which knowledge is pursued strictly for knowledge's sake, applied sciences are concerned with the usefulness of the technology involved. There are a wide variety of engineering careers in today's world, from the age-old professions of civil and mechanical engineering, to space-age pursuits in aeronautical and electronic engineering.

Whatever your career goals, success in engineering requires excellent quantitative abilities, and a good sense of the practical and useful. Some sensitivity to elegance in design is a plus. You will also benefit from good communication skills, as the best idea is only as good as your ability to convey it to others! Engineering is an ideal field for those with a love of science who would like greater opportunities than those available in the academic realm.
